Volunteering ”I get a real feeling of satisfaction from making a difference, especially for people less able to stand up for their rights.” Without our trained volunteers we could not continue to meet the demand advice. If you’re interested give Martin Lord(manager) or Alison Linnell a call on 01604 636642 or use the form below. Or if you’re not from Northampton call our volunteer recruitment hotline at local rate on 08451 264 264. More about CAB volunteering. Students We are approached by many students, especially those studying law, who would like to volunteer for the CAB. Most important to remember is that you won’t be able to advice clients ‘face to face’ without undertaking our training program This takes between 6 and 12 months and we would look for a regular and lengthy commitment thereafter - of at least 8 hours a week. The formality of this commitment often makes it difficult for students to commit to training to become advisers - especially given their own commitments to course work and lectures. However, there are other opportunities available - perhaps providing reception cover, responding to letter enquiries or helping with our social policy work. If you might be interested - give us a ring on 01604 628152 Opportunities There are two main types of role for which you can volunteer. Advice Support Workers support the work of advisers. They do not advice clients but offer administrative and practical assistance to ensure the smooth running of the bureau. Advisers give clients legal and practical advice. This role requires the biggest commitment - typically 8 hours a week and ore preferably for 18 months or more. There is also a 6 month training commitment before working with clients. If you aren’t sure which role would be best for you - don’t worry as we can tell you more about these roles before and if you make the commitment.
